WKLSG (West Kootenay Ladies Shooting Group) is the brain child of Castlegar, B.C. gun shop owner, Amber Berukoff. Many women in the area saw a need for more women representation in the sport but Amber took the time to start a grass roots not for profit ladies shooting club in February 2020. She saw a need to reach out to women and teach them handling and safety rules so that they could be independent and responsible gun users and/or owners. She was motivated by the belief that confidence in the sport tends to make them confident in other aspects of their life as well.
There were just a few ladies who attended the first indoor shoot in on February 5th, myself included, and it was our great hope that it would grow and thrive. Slowly but surely, one evening at a time, ladies signed up to attend the shoots. Following Covid -19 regulations and keeping attendance small, many ladies were introduced to a variety of guns and targets as well as gun handling and safety. The group has grown in the past few months and now boasts a following of 375 members on its Facebook page.
